Motovun is one of many small towns situated on the top of the hill what is typical for medieval towns in central Istria.

The city wall dates from the 12-13th century..

..and the city gate dates from 15th century.

I spent only one hour there on my way to Umag two weeks ago and here is a few photos I took..

Since 1999, Motovun has hosted the international Motovun Film Festival for independent and avant-garde films from the U.S. and Europe.

How easy it would be to imagine the souls that walked down those same streets, into those same doors, over the centuries. What stories those old stone walls could tell!

Did you see any films at the festival? If so, any suggestions?

i love these shots of medieval buildings and arches... and the beautiful lookout over the water. I was in Issigac, France last summer, also a medieval village... such a feeling of being transported into the past. Thanks for sharing. Roxanne

What fabulous photos you took, Dada. Simply stunning :)

How is Fred doing after his operation? I hope he's 100% recovered and has forgotten the whole thing by now :-D
